September 2008 In This Issue A fabulous piece of news for you - Elizabeth Hodgkinson has agreed to take over as President of our Society. Thank you to Elizabeth, and we all look forward to working with you! It is because of the participation of our members, that makes our Society strong! Fifteen artists submitted work this year! Community awareness of Livessence as a Society promoting figurative artists and models was greatly enhanced by our participation in this show. It also promoted a lot of positive membership interaction and gave good exposure to our budding and established figurative artists. Livessence at Artwalk 2 There were three pieces sold. But because the general percentage of sales was way down this year we were very lucky to have sold three pieces. Livessence at Artwalk 3 Ralf, our Exhibitions Chairman, passes on his thanks to all the volunteers who came to set up and to staff our booth this year. Rebekah and Hilton did a fabulous job mounting the show. We had a lovely dinner at Ricardo's in Winfield on the Friday evening, but next year, we will have a celebration dinner at the end of Artwalk on the Sunday evening rather than the Friday evening. Livessence at Artwalk 4 The venue was so large and the number of exhibiting artists so great that we need some large pieces to get the public's attention. For each of our shows, we will feature one, two or three very large canvases - if you would like to participate in this challenge, please contact Julia at livessence.society@gmail.com. Collaborative works from members are also welcome! Thank you to Hylton and Tina for the excellent photos of our exhibit! There are two shows happening in the theatre at the same time as our art show, which should be terrific for attendance: Chamber Music Kelowna on the Friday, and Kevin and Devon on the Saturday. Kevin and Devon will be performing in the Atrium along with us at 7 pm for a pre-show show, so that should be pretty exciting! Space allocation for each artist is up to five pieces each. Any member having any piece wider than 2 feet needs to inform Ralf before the deadline for submissions. Artists displaying pieces over 24 x 36 need to provide their own easel(s). Artists displaying in the Rotary Centre for the Arts (including this show) need to know that there is a 15% commission paid to the RCA for any artwork sold in their venue. Please build this in to your prices. If you have any questions, contact Ralf or Julia. On October 18th & 25th we will offer a workshop called Beyond Drawing. It will take place after the regular drawing session from 1230 pm to 330 pm and will focus on how to work up sketches into a larger works of art. While there will be no formal instruction, the artists present at the workshop will coach and guide each other. There will be a nominal $5.00 fee for each session and participants will be asked to bring their own art materials and at least three sketches to work from. The first session of drawing at the Canadian School of Ballet will take place on October 7th between 10:15 - 12:15. She has made arrangements for Livessence to draw there on the first Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in participating, please contact Rebekah at rjwilkin@telus.net. Have I used the word fabulous in this email yet? The participants loved it, and a big thank you to the models who ventured out - Linda, Lauren and Barb! Quails's Gate Vineyard was an excellent partner in this venture, and maybe we can talk to them about doing a show based on the artworks from the sessions.... what do you think? Artwork images needed! For print images, please send large files ie 2000 longest side, and for web images please send small files 500 longest side... and dont forget the watermark! Questions? livessence.society@gmail.com Please send by September 25.
